Another Horse and Farming

Soon after Woody became a member of our family, the Man (sissy cowboy) was reading the newspaper one night and he saw an article about the horses out west that needed to be adopted since the land was being turned into homes and there would be no room for these wild horses to roam any more. Well, we took a vacation that year out to Colorado and we adopted another horse to keep Woody company and to help tote all of us bears around. Woody certainly couldn't carry 50 little bears all by himself. So, we adopted Chucky. We even bought a little cart that both horses can easily pull and now all the bears go everywhere together in the cart.

In order to feed Woody and Chucky, we needed a place to buy hay and Clarence introduced us to Farmer Fred. Well, I must say that Fred thought it was really funny seeing two small horses pulling a cart full of teddy bears (and one raccoon - can't leave out Bandy now can I?). Finally, after he stopped laughing, he agreed to provide us with hay if we would pitch in and help him with his farm and crops. He was worried that we might not know anything about farming but we assured him that we had our own garden at home and how dedicated we were to our crops and how trustworthy and responsible we could be. Fred agreed to give us a try and the rest is history.

We help Fred to till the soil, plant the seed, and harvest the crops. We painted his barn and have learned to grease the tractor and other large equipment used by farmers. Fred is really glad we help him. We even made a roadside stand and painted it ourselves to sell the crops to people that drive by. Half of us are out in the fields picking the crops while the other half sells them. Fred gave us a small part of his farm to raise pumpkins and every year, we get to keep the profits from the sale of pumpkins and pumpkin seeds that we made. We sell sunflowers and seeds too.

Fred wanted to retire a few years ago and without our help, he says he would have. I know that one day he will retire and move to Florida to be with his friends but we enjoy our time with him now and have really learned a lot from him.
